Job Description

Technology Policy Studies Program Intern

The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) seeks an in-person intern for its technology policy studies program, which focuses on advancing policies to encourage innovation, competition, and growth in technology and seeks to minimize unintended consequences amid the rise of disruptive technology, such as artificial intelligence. The intern will assist AEI's technology policy team with the program's daily research and administrative activities and the tech policy newsletter.

The intern is expected to:

  • Provide research support for the technology policy team;
  • Attend and staff AEI events, which regularly feature DC's top policy leaders;
  • Assist in posting and promoting daily content;
  • Manage multiple projects, initiatives, and deadlines simultaneously; and
  • Be highly interested in technology and internet policy, including artificial intelligence, telecommunications, regulation in high-tech industries, antitrust and intellectual property law, digital privacy and data protection, and cybersecurity.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a rising college sophomore or above with an outstanding academic record, excellent writing and communication skills, and strong attention to detail. The candidate should have a demonstrated interest in a wide range of technology policy topics and a strong grasp of US institutions and current events.

The start dates for the fall program are September 9 and September 16. While the AEI Internship Program and all related programming will take place in-person in Washington, DC this fall, virtual interns may be accepted on a case by case basis. Please note that a cover letter and writing sample are both required, in order for your application to be considered complete.

AEI internships offer a unique opportunity for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates to gain experience in research, writing, business, and communications at one of the nation's leading think tanks. Competitive candidates will generally have a 3.4 GPA or higher from a top-ranking college or university. The AEI internship program runs 12 weeks.
