Interacts directly with pediatric patients, families and other health team members and facilitates age-appropriate interactions and activities to help make the health care experience easier for patients and families. Reduces patient and family distress, increases effective patient and family coping, fosters patient independence, and promotes optimum development. Provides supervision to volunteers, child life pre-internship students and child life assistants. This position works full-time (40 hrs/wk) with four 10 hour days from 1:30pm-12:00am, some weekends required, no holidays or on-call required. Eligible for 10% shift differential due to evening/night hours. Located in the Emergency Department at McKay-Dee Hospital, also taking calls from inpatient pediatrics, adult ICU, imaging, NICU, and other hospital areas working with children. Works with a team of 3 to support McKay-Dee Hospital and is part of the greater Intermountain Health child life department. Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, documentation of a 600-hour internship supervised by a Child Life Specialist, Child Life Certification or eligibility to obtain it within 15 months, experience with pediatric patients in medical, hospital or behavioral health settings, and proficiency in Child Life Core Competencies. Essential functions include assessing and documenting pediatric patient and family care, developing and implementing care plans, providing education and coping support, supervising new hires and volunteers, staff education, community outreach, and adherence to ACLP Code of Ethics. Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree, Registered Behavior Technician or behavioral health experience, experience with autism and behavioral challenges, and Spanish speaking. Physical requirements include frequent communication, manual dexterity, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
