The Institute for European Studies (IES) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is an academic Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and a policy think tank that focuses on the European Union in an international setting. The Institute advances academic education and research in various disciplines, and provides services to policy-makers, scholars, stakeholders and the general public.
DIRECTIONS TO IES
From ZAVENTEM AIRPORT to the INSTITUTE FOR EUROPEAN STUDIES (IES)
The Institute for European Studies is located on Boulevard de la Plaine 5, on a 5 min walking distance from the railway station “Etterbeek station” and opposite of the VUB Campus. It’s the pink building next to the Beobank.
By train (45-50min) from Zaventem Airport to Etterbeek Station (IES)
From Zaventem Airport you can take the train to Etterbeek station. You will need to change trains in Brussels North or Central Station. Please consult the timetables of the Belgian National Railroad Company (NMBS).
By bus (35min) from Zaventem Airport to Etterbeek Station (IES)
From Zaventem Airport, you can also take the bus 12 to Diamant, where you can switch to tram 7 and or 25 (direction Vanderkindere or Boondaal station) to Etterbeek Station.
By subway/tram/bus (25-35min) from Brussels North, Central or Midi to Etterbeek Station (IES)
Depending from which train station you depart, you can either take the metro, tram or bus. Here you can find an overview of different public transport possibilities: ‘How to get to’ brochure MIVB for Campus Etterbeek.
If you choose to take the tram, both tram 7 and 25 will take you to Etterbeek station.
If you take the metro, M5 will take you to Pétillon from where you can reach the Institute by taking tram 7 and 25 to Etterbeek Station. M1 will take you to Montgomery, from where you can also take tram 7 and 25 to Etterbeek station. Please consult the timetables of the MIVB for more information.
In case you come from the centre of Brussels (bus stop Bourse) you can take the bus 95 (direction Wiener) and get off at bus stop Etterbeek Station.

IES is at 5 minutes walking distance of railway station “Etterbeek”, which has a good connection with the 3 main railway stations of Brussels (Bruxelles-Nord, Bruxelles-Central and Bruxelles-Midi) and with the railway stations Bruxelles-Schuman and Bruxelles-Luxembourg.

Tramline 7 or 25, stop off railway station ‘Etterbeek’ on the Generaal Jacqueslaan (Boulevard Général Jacques).
Bus 95 has a stop called ‘Station Etterbeek’, which is at the crossing of the Kroonlaan (Avenue de la Couronne) and the Generaal Jacqueslaan.
The metro stations closest to the IES are ‘Delta’ and ‘Petillon’, both on line 5 ‘Erasmus-Herman-Debroux’, at about 10 minutes walking distance.
